How to create a Social Media Content Calendar for your wedding business

A calendar for your social media posts.

Social media is an essential part of any wedding business, and if you're looking to grow your wedding photography or planning business then it's also a great place to start. But how can you make sure that all of your social media efforts are going in the right direction? A good way to do this is by setting up a social media content calendar. In this post, we'll go over everything from planning out what you’re going to post on each channel, creating a posting schedule that works for your business, setting goals for each platform you’re using—and more!

Plan, plan, plan

Now that you know the basics of social media content planning, it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty. Social media is a great way to drive traffic and gain new customers. But you need to plan the content you will create in advance so that you have time to write and schedule posts on each platform. Planning is the key to success when it comes to creating a successful social media calendar for your wedding business!

Planning will help you stay on track with your goals, meet deadlines and avoid stress as well as keeping up with trends in your industry. And if done right – it can be easy peasy!

Choose your channels

One of the first steps in creating your social media content calendar is to decide which channels you’re going to use. It’s important to choose the right channels for your business, as well as ones that are relevant to both your target audience and your industry. For example, if you own a wedding cake business, it wouldn’t make sense for you to post photos on Instagram or Snapchat because neither channel has much of an audience interested in dessert or baking.

However, Twitter might be a better fit since it has a large audience interested in weddings and events—and they often share pictures of their cakes when they get married! Similarly, YouTube would be another good choice because it has so many videos related wedding celebrations (like “How-to guides”). You can use these videos as inspiration when creating your own content too! The goal here is always driving traffic back onto either website page so that visitors can learn more about what services/products available at given time period - this way we keep brand awareness high!

Use a content calendar

A content calendar is a tool for planning and organizing the content you'll be posting across your wedding business' social media channels. It helps you stay organized, plan ahead and prevent gaps in your posting schedule.

If you're already using a Google Calendar or spreadsheet to keep track of your daily tasks, then a content calendar will only take a few more minutes to set up each month—and the benefits it'll bring are well worth it. A basic-format example of how we've set up our social media calendar for 2019 can be found here; however, there's no right or wrong way to create one as long as it works for you!

Create your content buckets

  • Choose your channels.

You can use a content calendar to organize social media posts for any kind of business or organization, not just wedding-related businesses. So, which channels are right for you? You might choose to focus on just one platform or have a presence on several platforms. If you’re interested in attracting new customers, it makes sense to use channels like Facebook and Instagram that offer analytics tools so you can measure the results of your campaigns.

  • Set goals for each channel. A content calendar allows you to set goals and track progress toward those goals more easily than if you were posting organically (that is, without using a calendar). For example, if one goal is to increase website traffic by 10%, then the number of website visitors should increase by 10% over time as a result of following an editorial plan based on data from Google Analytics or another analytics tool.* Create buckets based on seasonal topics or topics relevant to certain months—usually holidays such as Christmas or Valentine's Day

Go seasonal and topical

To make your content calendar as relevant and engaging as possible, you should keep your audience in mind. When you're choosing what to post on your social media channels, think about the location of your business, the industry that it's a part of, and the seasonality of posts.

Your audience will be more likely to engage with seasonal or topical content that relates to their interests. For example: if you have an event planning business in Seattle during wintertime (when there aren't many weddings), it makes sense for you to post about fun things to do around town when it's cold outside—like festivals or movies at the theater!

If your audience is primarily wedding planners in New York City during summer months (when they are busy working), they might want tips on how they can take breaks from wedding planning and relax while still making money off of their businesses via consulting jobs.

Set goals for each platform you’re using

As with any other business, you need to know what your goals are.

  • For example:

  • How many followers do you want to get on Instagram?

  • What’s the average price point for your wedding photography packages?

  • How many people would buy a DIY bridesmaid dress guide from your blog?

These are all good starting points. Be sure to be ambitious, but also realistic—this is not the time for “losing 10 pounds in one month” or “making $1 million this year.” Set small and achievable milestones instead that will help move you forward; for example, losing 5 pounds in 3 months or making $1,000 in 6 months would be more manageable goals than those above.

Make a posting schedule that works for you and stick to it

It’s essential to remember that posting schedules aren’t set in stone. They are guidelines, not rules. As your business evolves and your audience changes, so too should your strategy.

If you notice that a consistent schedule isn't working for you anymore, or if it's just not feasible given your current workload, then don't be afraid to change it up! Just make sure that whatever schedule you decide on is realistic for both yourself and your company—you definitely don't want to burn out before the wedding season starts!
