How to take care of yourself during wedding season

Self-care for wedding season

Wedding season is one of the most hectic times for a wedding professional, but it's also the most rewarding. As such, you need to make sure that you're taking care of yourself throughout the 2023 wedding season. Here are some ways that you can take care of yourself and ensure that your wedding day will run smoothly from start to finish:

Delegate

  • Know your limits and be honest with yourself about them.

  • Don't overbook yourself. If you're taking on too much work, you'll have a hard time keeping up, which will lead to stress and burnout.

  • Don't feel bad about asking for help. If someone else is able to do something that you're not able to do at the moment (or ever), don't hesitate to ask them! Delegating is important even when it comes to weddings—you need all hands on deck if we want this industry as a whole to succeed in 2023.

Get a good night's sleep

Our bodies need sleep, and you need to get enough. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults should be getting 7-9 hours of sleep per night. If you're feeling tired most of the time, even after a good night's rest, it's possible that your body may not be getting what it needs in order to function at its best.

To help improve your ability to get quality rest:

  • Make sure that the room where you'll be sleeping is dark and quiet when it's time for bed—no buzzing lights or loud noises! Consider using blackout curtains or an eye mask if needed.

  • Shut off all screens at least 2 hours before bedtime (phones/laptops/TVs) so that their blue light doesn't interfere with melatonin production (the hormone responsible for helping us sleep).

  • Don't drink caffeinated beverages late in the day; they can make it harder for many people to fall asleep at night because they have a stimulating effect on nerves within our brains.* Avoid alcohol while trying out new routines; alcohol generally disrupts healthy sleep patterns because it interferes with REM stages (which are important parts of dreaming).

Take breaks during the day

It is important to take a break from wedding season. Self-care is so important and it is something that we all need, especially in this industry. It can be easy to forget about taking care of yourself when you are focused on your clients' needs and wants, but it's equally as important for your wellbeing!

  • No matter how hard you try or how busy you get during this time of year, remember that there will always be another bride needing something right then and there! Don't feel guilty about taking breaks throughout the day - make sure you're eating healthy meals (including snacks) throughout the day and getting plenty of sleep at night.

  • Even though some days may be slower than others, it doesn't mean there isn't work to do! Be sure to keep up with emails/phone calls/etc... even if they aren't immediately pressing matters; they'll help keep things flowing smoothly once wedding season kicks into high gear again

Surround yourself with friends and family

The wedding season is a busy time for many people in the industry, and it can be hard to keep up with all of your tasks. It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t have to do it all on your own—you have friends and family who can lend you a hand!

  • Surround yourself with supportive people: The best way to avoid burnout is by surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people who are there for you when things get tough. Make sure they know how much they mean to you, so that they won’t think twice about helping out during this busy season!

  • Stay connected: While some couples might prefer saying their “I dos” alone on the big day, most brides will want their loved ones around them as much as possible throughout the process leading up to their nuptials. Try having someone take photos or videos during events like showers or bachelorette parties so that everyone involved has something fun for themselves later on down the road (and maybe even some great memories).

Taking care of yourself is important as a wedding professional

As a wedding professional, it can be easy to forget that you need to take care of yourself too. Things get busy and stressful, and you may not give yourself the love that you deserve. But it’s important! You should always remember your physical, mental and emotional needs—they are all important parts of who you are as a person.

Taking time for self-care is also good for your business because when we feel good about ourselves on the inside, it shows on the outside too (that means in our work). Plus more energy means taking more opportunities for growth, which helps grow our businesses even more!
